Quick Flavor Boosters to Keep on Hand

With these basic herbs, spices and oils on hand, I have found that when both time and creativity are lacking, I can still come up with something flavorful to eat.  These are all easy to find in any grocery or liquor store and are inexpensive.

Herb and/or fruit Infused olive oils

Thyme (preferably fresh)*

Rosemary (preferably fresh)*

Sage (preferably fresh)*

Oregano (preferably fresh) *

Cumin

Cardamom (preferably whole pods)

Cinnamon

Dried chili peppers

Garlic

Vermouth

Take a fish fillet, some herbs and/or spices, a few minutes in the oven and voila, you’ve got yourself a quick, tasty meal. Check out this link for 2 basic recipes.

 *  storage tip: The flavor impact of fresh herbs beats dried by a mile so if you can get your hands on fresh herbs grab them.  Stored in the fridge in a Ziploc bag, they will keep for 1-2 weeks.  Dried herbs obviously last much longer, but they do lose their potency over time and should be replaced annually to ensure maximum flavor and impact.

Why not roast a whole fish or two such as bass or snapper? You could keep it simple by just seasoning it with salt and pepper and shoving some herbs and lemon inside. Or you could fancy it up a bit and marinate the fish first.
